    Police search for weapons in the 1900 block of East 103rd Street in Watts. Police patrolling the riot area stopped boys who were driving around late at night and then released them when no weapons were found. Photograph dated March 16, 1966.

The Lighthouse at the end of a pier in Hermosa Beach will open its annual Easter Week Inter-Collegiate Jazz festival, a project to encourage young collegiate talent. Trouble in Paradise: Music and Los Angeles 1945-1975

Trouble in Paradise explores the pop music scenes of Los Angeles, and their related culture, politics, and popular art, during the years of 1945-1975. In addition to a wide-range of iconic images from the period, the exhibit will also feature a cross-section of ephemera (album art, handbills, concert posters, etc.), music, and filmed interviews with key figures of the scene. The exhibition, co-curated by GRAMMY Museum Executive Director Robert Santelli and USC Professor Josh Kun, zeroes in on the tensions between alluring myths of Southern California paradise and the realities of social struggle that characterized the years following WWII. Genres of music featured in Trouble in Paradise include surf rock, jazz, R&B, Laurel Canyon folk rock, the Sunset Strip rock scene, and the East L.A. Chicano sound, all of which helped shape one of the most diverse and influential music scenes in all of America during this socially tumultuous period of L.A. history.
