Monarch Bay Homes, Laguna Niguel (Outdoor Dining Terrace) (1961)
Carlos Diniz Ladd & Kelsey
Architectural delineator Carlos Diniz translated architects' often very technical renderings of buildings into a format easily understood by clients, developers, and the general public. Diniz created alluring drawings of Monarch Bay Homes to show to the developer and later to be used in sales brochures. The outdoor patio set for entertaining and floor-to-ceiling glass walls epitomize the way that a California home allowed life to be led outdoors. Famously characterized by open plans and indoor/outdoor living, California homes like this one became a hugely influential model for the rest of the country, and indeed, the world.
